- Constable Than Singh has been conducting classes for children for a long time now. He continues teaching them during the pandemic too, after ensuring all health protocols are in place.
- Than Singh, a constable from the Delhi police force continues to do what he’s good at – helping children continue their education. And the pandemic has not put a stop to it. Than Singh takes classes for children from underprivileged backgrounds, especially children of labourers across the city.
- Earlier in September, a Bengaluru cop also conducted classes in a similar manner in a migrant settlement in Nagarbhavi. Sub-Inspector of Police Shantappa Jadammanavar engaged the students in an hour of Vedic mathematics every day before heading to work.

- झारखंड के जमशेदपुर में रहने वाली मोन्द्रिता चटर्जी की उम्र महज 15 साल है, लेकिन उन्होंने इतनी छोटी उम्र में कुछ ऐसी पहल की है, जिससे समाज में स्वच्छता संबंधी चिन्ताओं को दूर करने के लिए उम्मीद की एक नई किरण दिखाई देती है।
- गत वर्ष 150वीं गाँधी जयंती के मौके पर, मोन्द्रिता ने झारखंड क पोटका में अपने 10वें शौचालय का निर्माण किया। इससे पहले वह हलुदवानी और गरुड़वासा में भी शौचालय बनवा चुकी हैं। लेकिन, इसमें सबसे खास है गरुड़वासा के मानविकास स्कूल में बना शौचालय।मानविकास स्कूल में इस शौचालय को 2018 में बनाया गया था।
- इसमें तीन रूम हैं, लेकिन इस शौचालय को परंपरागत तकनीक के बजाय 7000 बेकार प्लास्टिक के बोतलों से बनाया गया है। इन बोतलों में मिट्टी भरे गए हैं, ताकि इसपर भीषण गर्मी का भी कोई असर न हो। इस शौचालय को बनाने में 1.8 लाख रुपए खर्च हुए और जब शौचालय बनकर तैयार हुआ, तो झारखंड के तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री रघुवर दास भी इसे देखने आए। भविष्य में मोन्द्रिता का इरादा पर्यावरण हितों को ध्यान में रखते हुए ऐसे और शौचालयों को बनाने का है।

- Devidas Chaudhari, a retired sub-district magistrate from Maharashtra, took up the plantation of native trees in 15 acres of land. The efforts inspired 50,000 people to increase green cover in the area
- Devidas said the trees were also planted along river streams in the village, farmlands and schools.
- There are about 250 fruit-bearing trees along with the farms. Having mango trees has become popular, and the farmers have realised that canopy of the trees give shade and help protect crops from the scorching summer heat,” he added.

- हरियाणा में प्लास्टिक से निपटने के लिए कुछ अनूठी पहल काम आ रही है। यहाँ प्लास्टिक की बोतलों का उपयोग दीवार के निर्माण में किया जा रहा है। जतिन ने इंटरनेट पर अलग-अलग तरीके तलाशना शुरू किया, जिससे कि वह कचरे के ढेर को इकट्ठा होने से रोक सकें। उन्हें सस्टेनेबिलिटी के तीन R का कांसेप्ट पता चला। पहला रेड्युज़, रियुज और फिर रिसायकल!
- प्लास्टिक की पुरानी-बेकार बोतलों को फेंकने की बजाय इनमें प्लास्टिक के रैपर जैसे चिप्स आदि के पैकेट्स या पॉलिथीन को भरकर इनका ढक्कन बंद कर दें। इन बोतलों का इस्तेमाल ईंटों की जगह निर्माण कार्यों के लिए किया जा सकता है और इसलिए ही इन्हें ‘इको-ब्रिक्स’ कहते हैं। क्योंकि इनसे हम पर्यावरण को बचा रहे हैं।
- स्कूल में उनकी बात को समझा गया और वहाँ उन्हें बच्चों के साथ सेमिनार करने की अनुमति मिल गयी। जतिन ने बच्चों को सिखाया कि कैसे इको-ब्रिक्स बनाया जाता है। उन्होंने बच्चों को समझाया कि अब से वह किसी भी तरह के प्लास्टिक रैपर या पॉलिथीन आदि को फेकेंगे नहीं बल्कि अपने आस -पास से पुरानी बेकार प्लास्टिक की बोतलें इकट्ठा करके उनमें भरेंगे और इको-ब्रिक्स बनाएंगे। धीरे-धीरे छात्रों को भी इस काम में मजा आने लगा और देखते ही देखते उन्हें एक स्कूल से 700 इको-ब्रिक्स मिल गयी।

- Ashok Deshmane established the NGO Snehwan to educate and provide for farmers’ children in and around the Marathwada region for free of cost. Today, he supports over 50 kids in pursuing their dreams.
- Ashok Deshmane was born in Parbhani — a quaint district located in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Having grown up amidst parched and unfertilised lands with hardly any rainfall, he knew the struggles of sustaining in a drought. Ashok did not have a very pleasant childhood. For his family — whose main source of livelihood was farming — obtaining three square meals a day in itself used to be a challenge. In fact, they were unable to earn enough due to severe water scarcity in the region. After doing a few odd jobs and burning the candle at both ends, Ashok managed to fund his higher education.
- As years passed by, the young man realised that things had not changed. Poverty, inaccessibility to education and healthcare, dry spells, and farmer suicides were still plaguing people. According to an RTI document, over 15,000 farmers lost their lives to suicide in Maharashtra between 2013 and 2018. Ashok was appalled when he found out about this dire situation. He wanted to improve the lives of the residents of his hometown and bring about a transformation.

- उत्तर प्रदेश के वृंदावन के रहने वाले वैज्ञानिक और उद्यमी महेश खंडेलवाल से, जिन्होंने बेहद सस्ते सेनिटरी नैपकिन बनाकर न सिर्फ कमजोर तबके के महिलाओं को माहवारी के मुश्किल दिनों में स्वच्छता संबंधी चिंताओं का ध्यान रखने के लिए प्रेरित किया, बल्कि उन्हें आर्थिक रूप से सबल भी बनाया।
- दरअसल, यह बात साल 2014 की है, जब उनकी मुलाकात मथुरा के तत्कालीन जिलाधिकारी बी. चंद्रकला से हुई। इस दौरान डीएम बी. चंद्रकला ने उन्हें ग्रामीण तबके के महिलाओं को माहवारी के दौरान होने वाली पीड़ा के बारे में बताया। उनकी इस बात का महेश खंडेलवाल पर काफी गहरा असर हुआ।
- इसके बारे में महेश ने द बेटर इंडिया को बताया, “आज देश की करोड़ों महिलाओं को सेनिटरी नैपकिन की जरूरत पड़ती है, लेकिन ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में आज भी सेनिटरी नैपकिन को व्यवहार में नहीं लाया जाता है, जिससे कई स्वास्थ्य संबंधी चिंताएं उभर रही हैं। मेरा उद्देश्य एक ऐसे उत्पाद को विकसित करने का था, जिसे स्थानीय महिलाओं द्वारा निर्मित किया जा सके।”

- Noticing the plight of millions of migrant workers during the Coronavirus-forced lockdown, Mumbai-based school student, Karan Taparia,(12th class Student) started the initiative Kushal Bharat It is a non-profit platform that supports pandemic-affected families, empowering them to start their own small business ventures
- Kushal Bharat’s team started a collective crowd-funding campaign and has been able to provide seed funding and a support ecosystem for migrant workers, allowing them to rekindle their livelihoods.
- the goal of providing a framework for self-sustenance, this platform has aided many migrant workers to start micro-businesses like stitching, dairy farming, food stalls etc. Till September, Kushal Bharat has successfully impacted over 200 lives by helping 40+ workers get back on their feet

- कश्मीर के बिलाल अहमद डार की कहानी ‘ह्यूमन्स ऑफ बॉम्बे’ ने इंस्टाग्राम पर शेयर की है। बिलाल, कश्मीर के बांदीपोरा जिले के रहने वाले हैं। वह बचपन से अपने पिता के साथ राज्य की ‘वुलर झील’ पर कूड़ा उठाने जाते थे। कूड़ा बीनकर जो कमाई होती थी उसी से उनके परिवार का गुजर बसर होता था। इसलिए इलाके वाले बिलाल के पिता को ‘कबाड़ीवाले’ के नाम से भी जानते थे।
- कई साल पहले बिलाल के पिता हमेशा की तरह झील से कचरा निकाल रहे थे। इसी दौरान उनका संतुलन बिगड़ा और वह नाव से फिसकर झील में जा गिरे। इस हादसे में उनका एक पैर बुरी तरह से जख्मी हो गया। जब उन्हें डॉक्टर के पास ले जाया गया तो परिवार को पता चला कि उन्हें पैर का कैंसर है और झील के जहरीले पानी के कारण ऐसा हुआ। कुछ ही महीनों में उनका निधन हो गया और परिवार की जिम्मेदारी बिलाल पर आ गई।
- बीते सात वर्षों से बिलाल रोज सुबह 6 बजे उठकर ‘वुलर झील’ से कचरा निकालने जाते हैं। एक दिन में वो 10 से 15 किलो प्लास्टिक की बोतलें, पॉलिथीन और अन्य कचरा निकाल लेते हैं। इसके बाद वो कचरे को एक कबाड़ीवाले को बेच देते हैं, जिससे उन्हें प्रतिदिन 150-200 रुपये मिल जाते। एक रोज कबाड़ीवाले ने बिलाल से कहा, ‘क्या तुम जानते हो अब तक तुम 12,000 किलो प्लास्टिक कचरा मेरे पास ला चुके हो?’ तब बिलाल ने सोचा कि अगर इस काम में उसके दोस्त मदद करें तो झील जल्दी साफ हो जाएगी, जिसके बाद उसने दोस्तों और अन्य छात्रों को झील की सफाई को लेकर मोटिवेट किया।

- The famous saying – ‘The past is where you learn the lesson, the future is where you apply it’ – holds strongly for Australia-based chef Daman Shrivastav who believes that success and failures taste alike. Whether it was working in top-notch 5 and 7-star hotels, being a fruit-picker on an orange farm or for that matter surviving the 1990 Gulf War, Daman believes that every phase made him a better person. For a chef of his stature would have never realised the meaning of starvation if it were not for trembling Iraqi civilians in underground bunkers.
- No wonder feeding strangers, especially international students, came naturally to the 54-year-old as soon Melbourne went into a lockdown in March. With his personal savings, Daman cooks 500 meals every week.
- Daman is presently working as a Culinary Arts Lecturer at the Box Hill Institute. He lives with his wife and 8-year-old daughter in South Morang, Melbourne.
